How often should gutters be cleaned in Ohio?
Ohio homes need two cleanings a year: before freeze, after seeds.
Across the northern part of the state, near Cleveland and the Lake Erie shore, standard homes get two visits: early November ahead of the hard freeze, and May once the maple, oak, ash and cottonwood seed drop has finished. Lake-effect snow packs debris into the downspouts fast once ice dams start, so the November visit carries the heavier load.
In the southern hill country around Columbus and the Ohio River valley, the same two-visit pattern holds: November before the freeze, May after seed drop from oak, maple, hickory and tulip poplar. The taller canopy across these hills means gutter maintenance here leans on that November visit even more, since ice dams follow fast once the freeze sets in.
